John is the Broker/Owner/ CEO here at Century 21 Discovery and is the founder of the Discovery franchise. John has been involved in Real Estate for over 30 years, many of those as an agent and 26 as a licensed Broker. Discovery started in a different location tucked away in a major shopping center at the corner of Euclid and Rosecrans in the city of Fullerton. The story is that if you were to ever find the building, it was a truly a discovery.
John is known as the man with the plan for C-21 Discovery and one of the most determined people that you will ever meet. It is this determination that took him away from the larger corporate run brokerages and attracted him to the owner-operated franchisers like Century 21. John states that “The infinite wisdom of corporate management in most of the other big name brokerages never ceases to amaze us. When the market is strong, they like opening one marginally successful office after another. Then when that market so much as hiccups, they shut them down as fast as they were opened, leaving their agents with nowhere to go.”
Being a “fly by night” type of brokerage is clearly not the Discovery way as John has always strived to hire and train agents for the long haul. Ironically though, flighty brokerages are exactly how John came upon the building where Century 21 Discovery currently resides. “Infinite wisdom” apparently reared its head again as the previous tenant, who happened to be a large corporate run Real Estate branch, decided they no longer wanted anything to do with the Fullerton market. The story is that the employees came to work one day and found that the office was now closed and their stuff to be moved out immediately. The landlord, a former Real Estate Broker and icon in the city of Fullerton by the name of Tom Key (now deceased), was in trouble as he’d just lost a big tenant. John received a call from Tom that day and the rest is history. Century 21 Discovery was no longer a “discovery” but now sits on one of the most incredibly prominent corners in all of Orange County! It seems fitting for a company whose specialty is Real Estate to sit on such a tremendous piece of geography. Click here to view building
